Our Favorite Wedding Shower Recipes
Wedding shower guests want to be entertained and fed, while helping to celebrate your upcoming wedding. We know that it can get difficult to cater (no wedding pun intended!) to everyone’s different tastes. We also know that it can get pricey to hire a professional caterer and/or have a wedding shower at a restaurant or banquet hall.
To help save on budget, many showers are being held at home with the host(s) cooking the food. If you fall into that category, we are here to help you out. We’ve come up with four delicious and effortless recipes, which include an easy appetizer, two foolproof entrees and a dessert that will leave your guests salivating.
Appetizer
No one (especially at a wedding shower) wants to be bothered with an appetizer that may look too filling, greasy, or let’s face it, boring. To mix it up, we’ve chosen an asparagus and prosciutto bruschetta. These little darlings are bite-sized and are ideal for giving your guests something to munch on while they wait for the main course.
Asparagus and Prosciutto Bruschetta
Items Needed:
- Baguettes
- Olive Oil
- Asparagus
- Sliced Prosciutto
- Salt and Pepper
Thinly slice baguette(s), brush with olive oil, place on baking sheet, and bake at 425 degrees for seven minutes or until golden. Remove bread from sheet and place halved asparagus on sheet and drizzle with olive oil, and salt and pepper. Roast at 450 degrees for seven minutes or until slightly crisp.
Place a thin slice of prosciutto and a single asparagus onto the baguettes and you’re finished! Set them all on a plate and pass them around for your guests.
Entrees
Okay, so we know that making a huge, extremely appetizing course from scratch, for your wedding shower, would bump you from awesome to SUPER awesome. Unfortunately, not many people have the time for that.
Since we still want you to be seen as awesome, we’ve decided to go simple and easy for the entrees: crock pot food!
There’s a new trend with crock pots popping up and they’re not these antique cooking tools anymore. You can make anything with them now. So, grab your mom’s crock pot, and dig yours out of the cupboard, and you’ll be surprised as to how heavenly the end results are.
For the first entree, the BBQ chicken really appealed to our tummies. The drenching of chicken in BBQ sauce and the fact that it’s so tender (thank you, six-hour slow cooking) made this an obvious choice.
*The amount of chicken breasts to use is up to you.
Items Needed:
- Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breasts (can be frozen)
- 1 Bottle of BBQ Sauce
- 1/4 cup of Vinegar
- 1 tsp. of Red Pepper Flakes
- 1/4 cup of Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. of Garlic Powder
Mix BBQ sauce and the other ingredients together. Pour sauce over chicken breasts in crock pot and cook it on low for 4-6 hours. Slice them up and pair with your favorite side dishes and you’re done. We know: it’s amazing. Put away the crock pot and get out your fancy platters. Now no one will know the difference between you slaving away in your kitchen for hours versus pouring a few cheap ingredients into a crock pot.
Everyone loves a plate of lasagna, and you’ll love it even more when you hardly cook anything because the crock pot is doing the tedious work for you. It’s comfort food at its finest without having to endure the long cooking and prep hours. We cringe at that, too.
(Serves 10)
Items Needed:
- 1lb. of Ground Meat
- 1/2 cup of Diced White Onion
- 1 tsp. of Minced Garlic
- 1 Jar of Spaghetti Sauce
- 1/2 cup of Water
- 1 Container of Ricotta Cheese
- 2 cups of Mozzarella
- 1/4 cup of Grated Parmesan
- 1 Egg
- 2 tsp. of Dried Parsley
- Lasagna Noodles
Brown ground meat and onions in a pan. Once browned, add garlic and cook for one minute. Add spaghetti sauce, water, and simmer for five minutes. While that’s cooking, mix ricotta, 1 1/2 cups of mozzarella, two tablespoons of parmesan, egg, and parsley together. Pour a cup of the meat sauce into the crock pot, place half of the noodles on top, and half of the ricotta mixture on top. Cover with two cups of meat sauce and top with the remaining noodles, ricotta mixture, and meat sauce. Cook on low for 4-5 hours and sprinkle with the leftover mozzarella and parmesan. Serve with a simple caesar salad and everyone will be begging you for your recipe.
Dessert
We are all about quick, easy, and inexpensive, but this is so ridiculously wonderful that we had to choose this as our dessert. The title says it all: two-minute mug brownies.
Items Needed:
- 1/4 cup Flour
- 1/4 cup Packed Brown Sugar
- 2 tbsp. Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- A Pinch of Salt
- 2 tbsp. Canola Oil (you can substitute butter)
- 2 tbsp. Milk, Coffee, or Water
In a heatproof cup, stir the dry ingredients together until it has no lumps. Stir in the oil and milk (or coffee; water) until you have a thick paste. Microwave on high for 1-1 1/2 minutes. It should be warm, gooey, and slightly firm on top. Serve with vanilla or mint chocolate ice cream, or drizzle with caramel syrup; you can’t go wrong.
Tip: If you’re thinking about favors, buy affordable cups (try your local dollar store) for each guest and bake each brownie inside. Tie a little “thank you” note to the handle and your guests are sure to love your creativity.
