Wedding Bathroom Amenities Basket

by Nicole Onofrio on July 16, 2012

It is getting increasingly popular for couples to provide an amenity basket in the bathroom of their reception hall or venue.

While a nice gesture, and a convenience to your guest, it isn’t necessary.  However, if you still like the idea of providing a basket, make sure to only include necessary items.  You don’t want to waste your money on a ton of unused items, and you sure don’t want to get stuck with a basket of junk after your wedding!

Here are some affordable and useful items to consider…

  • Tylenol/Advil
  • Bandaids
  • Eye drops
  • Deodorant (spray on)
  • Lotion
  • Floss or Toothpicks
  • Gum or Mints
  • Hairspray
  • Clear nail polish (to stop those pantyhose runs!)
  • Tampons/Pads
  • Sunscreen &/or Bug repellent (if having an outside wedding)
  • Sewing kit
  • Nail file
  • Brushes/combs
  • Hair bands
  • Bobby pins
  • Safety pins
  • Spot remover wipes or pens
  • Lint Brush

Of course, you can adjust the items for the men’s versus women’s bathroom.

Also, to save money on these items, look in the dollar store, buy in bulk, and avoid name brands.

Hi Nicole! I just discovered your blog and am enjoying all of your tips! I look forward to visiting you once I get closer to planning our wedding. :)

One thing: I think an amenity kit is extremely necessary! I was at a wedding where the maid of honor’s dress burst open in the back and it was thanks to the bag of safety pins in the bathroom’s amenity kit that she was able to get closed back up before her speech! Not to mention, the spray deodorant and body splash us ladies could afford to use after getting down on the dance floor!

The leftover toiletries can be used as carry-on items to travel with on the honeymoon, no?

    Win-win for all!

    • Great, Lisa! I’m happy that you’ve found us, and are enjoying our tips!

I agree with you. I think an amenity kit or basket is very helpful but to save on cost, I think you should be selective as to what you put in it. For my wedding, I put everything in there from cotton balls, to lotion, to even condoms! but I went home with most of it. I put it under my spare bathroom sink for guests, then eventually ended up throwing it all out. What a waste! Go for the necessity items like the pins and deodorant!

That’s a great idea to use the leftover toiletries, however, if you have a proactive couple they may already be packed or might not want to wait to see what’s left!
