Save with Something Old, Something Borrowed
So, we’ve all heard of the Old English rhyme, “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue”. This tradition started hundreds of years ago, when the bride’s family members and attendants brought her each of these items as tokens of love and good luck on her wedding day.
Today many bride’s are still incorporating these items into their wedding day, and why not? It’s not only a fun way to carry on tradition but it will also save you money from having to purchase these items on your own!
To get you started, here are some ideas…
Something Old
- Wedding band passed down from your grandmother or mother.
- Handkerchief from your baptism or even another wedding that you’ve participated in.
- Childhood treasure such as a charm or locket.
- Something vintage such as a pair of white gloves or compact mirror.
- Old photo to carry in your purse or put in the locket.
Something Borrowed
- Gown passed down from your grandmother or mother.
- Jewelry such as a pair of earrings, necklace and/or bracelet.
- Purse, pair of shoes, veil, headpiece, hair pin or brooch.
- Bible, prayer book, poem or vows.
- Rosary beads to be wrapped around your flowers, garter or held in your purse.
Of course many of these items can be interchangeable but regardless of the item, look to your family and friends. They would love to help add a special touch to your wedding day!
