Inexpensive Honeymoon Ideas

Now that the wedding is over, it’s time for you and your new spouse to relax.  However, for many couples this is hard to do with the financial burden of a honeymoon.

Society seems to put so much pressure on newly married couples, to take an extravagant trip to a secluded island or another country.  However, this is not necessary.  There are many beautiful and fun places, where you and your spouse can go, to de-stress and start your new life together without going in to debt.

Here are a few wedding honeymoon ideas…

  • Bed & Breakfast – B&B’s can be found all over the world.  It may help to find one that is local, to save on airfare; maybe out in the country side where you can escape from the hustle & bustle of city life.  Try to find a seasonal or themed package that includes amenities such as free breakfast or champagne and strawberries upon arrival.
  • Castles in the Sky – Now that your magical day is over, plan a trip to visit some of the most famous castles in the world.  Many can even be found in the Unites States, for example in California and Massachusetts.

Shown above is the Amorosa Winery Castle (or Castello di Amoroso), located in Napa Valley, CA.  The Castle was built by wine maker Daryl Sattui to showcase his vineyards and wines.  After taking 14 years to build, the castle finally opened in 2007.  Costing approximately $30 million, the castle is over 121,000 square feet and includes 107 rooms.  Tour the castle, or take part in a wine tasting and wine making class.

  • Island Paradise – Of course, there are many islands to see in Hawaii or Alaska but there are many other great escapes around the U.S. that provide breathtaking views, sandy shores, national parks and much more for a smaller price tag.  To get started, check out this article on America’s 10 Best Islands.
  • City Crowds – If you are looking for more action, visit a big city where the excitement and attractions are plentiful such as New York City and Las Vegas.  Lay by the hotel pool or take a tour during the day, then hit up a nice restaurant for dinner, see a show or go out clubbing at night.
  • Cozy Campgrounds -  What a better way to relax and enjoy the company of your new husband or wife, than cuddling up by a camp fire and just enjoying the beautiful surroundings that nature has to offer.  A few of my favorite inexpensive camping sites include Yellowstone National Park (Wyoming), Petit Jean State Park (Arkansas), Pipestem Resort State Park (West Virginia).

  • Festival Fun – Organize your honeymoon around a popular festival or carnival that you would enjoy such as the Lobster Festival (Maine), Summerfest (Wisconsin) or Great American Beer Festival (Colorado).
