Have Fun While Getting Financial Help At Your Wedding Reception – The “Money Dance”
While having the time of your life at your wedding reception, it’s very easy to convince yourself that it was worth every penny. Well, wouldn’t it be even sweeter if you could make some of that money back? Well, the increasingly popular tradition of the “money dance” or “dollar dance” can help you do just that, while having fun with your guests.
For this dance, the guests make an offering in exchange for a dance with the bride or groom. Here are some helpful tips in organizing this for your wedding:
- Decide on a specific song(s) and time, with your DJ or MC, to dedicate to this dance. Of course the time should be flexible, as you will be pulled in numerous directions throughout your celebration.
- Have your DJ or MC explain the symbolism behind the dance, as well as have them start a sign up sheet.
- Have a money jar and dedicate your Maid of Honor or someone else in your wedding party to collect the money.
- Select another member of your wedding party, to help line up the guests and to signal when it is time to switch partners.
- Depending on the number of guests that have signed up, decide on a time frame for each partner (typically between 20-30 seconds per partner).
- Try to continue the dance until everyone who would like a dance, has had a chance. At the end of the last dance, ask the DJ or MC to welcome everyone back on the dance floor.
- Try to have the dance earlier in the night, before your guests start to leave.
Just remember, the more organized the dance is, the smoother it will run and the more fun it will be!
Some may think this idea is tacky, but it really is a great way to spend time with your guest. Not to mention, even if the offerings are a dollar or two per dance, it all adds up. I’ve seen brides and grooms walk away with over $1,000! Your guests will welcome the opportunity to help get your marriage off to a nice start financially.
Have you ever been to a wedding where the bride and groom have done a dance like this? If so, how did the guests respond? I’d love to know, so comment below!
