DIY Wedding Cupcake Stands
While they may look time-consuming and difficult, I had loads of fun making this adorable cupcake stand for my cousin’s first birthday! Naturally, with her precious cupcake theme, it was imperative to serve luscious cupcakes with gooey icing on top. I had seesawed between the idea of creating a cupcake stand from scratch and just purchasing a custom-made one, but with all of the possibilities of DIYing one, I had to jump on board and make it. Thankfully, it was relatively inexpensive and super easy.
You too can make this for a birthday, but more importantly for your wedding. What a fun and yummy addition to your decor and dessert table!
Items Needed:
- Cake boards in the shape of your choice (number depends on the amount of cupcakes you’re going to serve)
- Pieces of styrofoam in the shape of your choice
- Wrapping paper
- Ribbon for the edges
- Twine, yarn, or ribbon for the styrofoam
- Tape and/or hot glue
- Scissors
(For this particular project, I used three round cake boards and three round pieces of styrofoam. The styrofoam on top can be used as your anniversary cake and to hold your cake topper.)
Lay out the wrapping paper and place the cake board on top, tracing the shape of the board. Do this for all of the other pieces. Once you have done so, tape down the wrapping paper onto the board and ensure all of the edges are flat down. When you have done this to each board, take the ribbon that you have picked out for the edges and wrap it around the exposed sides of the cake board. Tape it down or use hot glue.
For the styrofoam pieces, take your twine, yarn, or ribbon and your tape (hot glue may be too harsh for the styrofoam) and begin wrapping it around the styrofoam. As soon as you have fully wrapped the material around the styrofoam, secure it down with tape. If there are any exposed tops of styrofoam that cannot be covered, take the ribbon used for the sides of the cake board and cover it with that.
As soon as you’re done with all of this, tape the pieces of cake board and styrofoam together and you’re done!
Tip: Assemble this at the venue site. It’s much easier than assembling it and moving it.
