Affordable Honeymoon Destinations on the East Coast

If planning a wedding on a budget, the last thing many bride and groom’s want to do is start their lives off together in debt.  Although a lavish honeymoon sounds wonderful, it’s also expensive.  Therefore, many couples are opting to stay in the United States, and closer to home.

There are many beautiful honeymoon destinations on the east coast – some that may even be in your back yard.  So, if you live on this side of the country or plan to visit there for your honeymoon, here are a few of our favorite romantic and affordable locations…

Cape Code, Massachusetts

Located at the easternmost portion of the state, this is the perfect place for relaxation.  Enjoy one of the many activities such as walking a farmers market, whale watching, a sunset harbor cruise or just take a walk or bike ride to enjoy the natural beauty.  Stay at a charming bed & breakfast, an antique farmhouse or at a campground.

Niagara Falls, NY

This town, on the border of Canada, is worth visiting strictly because of the falls.  Take a boat tour on the Maid of the Mist or a helicopter ride over the falls.  Once your fascination with the falls is over, visit a state park, go fishing, or visit the wineries on the wine trail.  There are numerous hotels, cottages and bed & breakfasts within walking distance to the falls (and in all price ranges).

New York City, NY

If you prefer the hustle & bustle, this large city is your spot.  The possibilities are endless.  Go see a Broadway show or a sporting event or concert, view the entire city from the top of the Empire State Building, or enjoy a delicious meal at one of the many famous restaurants.  Search around for the best hotel prices.  Find a cute boutique hotel, and keep an eye out for complimentary breakfast deals.

Cape May, NJ

This is one of the oldest vacation resort destinations in the country – but still one of the finest, as well.  Go antique shopping, walk the beach, go on a haunted ghost tour, or unwind at the spa.  Stay at one of the well-known bed & breakfasts or in a Victorian apartment.

National Harbor – Prince George’s County, MD (just south of Washington D.C.)

This area, along the Potomac River, is becoming increasingly popular due to the recent development of restaurants, shopping, hotels and more.  Rock out at a free concert, rent a boat out of one of the impressive marinas, see some of the nation’s art and treasures at the Smithsonian, or stop in a couple of shops.

Charleston, SC

This city is known for its polite and hospitable residence.  So, what better area than this to relax after your big day.  Take a carriage or horseback ride, golf, visit an historical fort, or catch a tan on the beach.  Spend the night at a historical inn or beach resort.

Sanibel Island, FL

As one of Florida’s top vacation destinations, you are guaranteed to have an unforgettable honeymoon.  Search for the renowned shells, visit the J.N. “Ding Darling” National Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary, or visit the Point Ybel Lighthouse.  Stay at a waterfront hotel, rent a cottage or condo, find a campground or a romantic bed & breakfast.
